Black & white embroidered elephant cushion

Bold, bright and beautiful, this filled cushion is effectively two in one. The reverse is in colourful Mexican Saltillo whilst on the face is a magnificently embroidered elephant in stark black and white. The cover is handmade from 100% cotton and is both hand- and machine-embroidered. This is a textile that is gorgeously tactile and a visual delight in the respect that the intricate needlework manages to translate the soft, caring strength of such a gentle giant. Sixty people work for the company that hand-makes this cushion, investing their time, personality, skills and individuality into each item. They produce beautiful textiles, cushions and scarves using anything from cotton, polyester and jute fabric to recycled plastic bags. Half are cottage workers, twenty people are employed at the factory and the remainder are sub-contractors. All employees receive benefits in addition to statutory wages, and as testament to their employer’s belief in them, are mostly long-standing members of the company. Environmentally, the company harvests water and recycles wherever possible, and factory improvements are an ongoing process.
